    3 Tips for Cleaning Your Teeth!

    Are you brushing your teeth properly? Many people assume that as long as they’re pushing the toothbrush into their mouth and vaguely sort of running it around that the job is done, and of course as any dentist or healthcare professional will tell you; this is simply not the case.

    So, make sure you follow these top tips so you can enjoy clean, healthy teeth and a brilliant smile!

    Time and Technique
    To properly brush your teeth, you need to brush for two solid minutes, and many people assume that they can get away with brushing for less time if they simple go at it guns blazing. But that simply isn’t true; you need delicate, gentle and smooth motions. If you’re too rough and aggressive with it you may well end up damaging your teeth and gums.

    Have a good long clean around the inner and outer surfaces of your teeth, and then do the same along the inner side. Once that is done you can then move onto the actual chewing surfaces. Many people forget the tongue also, a vital part of oral hygiene. You can use your brush on your tongue, for sure, but you may find investing in a dedicated tongue scraper is a far more effective way of cleaning your tongue.

    This should be done first thing in the morning after you wake up, and then last thing at night before you go to bed, at least. If you’re really keen on oral hygiene you should also brush immediately after meals.

    The right toothbrush
    Many dental professionals will tell you that the general view amongst professionals; is that a soft bristled, small headed toothbrush is the best thing to use. The soft bristles will be better at removing plaque, and the small head will allow you to comfortably access all areas of your mouth. A toothbrush should be replaced every 3 months or whenever it starts to feel a little ‘worn’, whichever comes first.

    If you have limited mobility in your hands, or are willing to invest a little more money into your oral hygiene, than an electric toothbrush may well be a valuable alternative. Consult your dentist for your best option.
